GURU PADMASAMBHAVA WITH OFFERING NAGAS

Padmasambhava is the mystic saint who brought Tantric Buddhism from India to Tibet. A fully enlightend being, Guru Rinpoche, as he is know to Tibetans, is considered the 2nd Buddha and his coming to our world was prophesied by Shakyamuni Buddha. Guru Rinpoche is responsible for disseminating countless teachings, many through termas (spiritual texts and ritual objects) he hid in the 9th century to be appropriately discovered in later times.
I especially like this thangka painting because of the two Nagas making offerings. At the top are Samantabhadra & Samantabhadri (Tibetan: Kuntuzanpo & Kuntusangmo), the male and female aspects of the primordial Buddha, in union. The figures on either side of Guru Rinpoche are his two primary consorts, Mandarava and Yeshe Tsogyal.
